Alexa Hellenthal, Head Trainer & Owner
Alexa has been passionate about horses & equestrian sport since she was three years old, growing up on a horse farm in Western Howard County, Maryland. Since then Alexa has worked her way up the ranks of the horse industry - learning from the best equestrians and horse-people in Maryland, Ohio and West Virginia. With 28 years of caring for, riding & training horses under her belt Alexa is proud to finally operate her own facility.
At Hellenthal Equestrian, Alexa strives to create an enjoyable environment where clients (both humans & hoofed) feel welcome & feel encouraged to learn. With every horse & rider she works with, no matter the discipline or goal, Alexa begins by ensuring the foundations & understanding of the basics are strong.
In her free time, you can find Alexa working in her garden, snuggling with her dogs Mya and Pepper, or watching the sunset from her front porch with her husband Rob.
Happy Clients
“After a 20 yr break, I went to Alexa for riding lessons and to help with my new horse. She has now been my trainer for several years now and has been absolutely wonderful to work with. She has helped me develop so much more confidence and a great partnership with my horse on the ground and in the saddle. It amazes me how far we have both come thanks to Alexa, and I look forward to continuing our journey together!”
“Alexa has played a huge role in My daughters training. From boarding, to helping her train her current and past Horses, to helping her to get her confidence back after a rough year of bad experiences elsewhere. Alexa is amazing in every aspect of her business and we can't thank her enough for all of her help and dedication to her riders and the Horses.”
“I can't say enough wonderful things about Alexa and her programs for both horses & riders. I've boarded and trained with her for two years and I've never been happier.
The facilities are incredibly well maintained and Alexa notices EVERYTHING. I can go on vacation and know she will touch my horse every day and make sure nothing is amiss. She treats my horse as if he is her own and that is priceless & rare to find.
As a trainer, she has a ‘feel’ that many lack. She is able to push you out of your comfort zone - just enough - to where you are still challenged and learning but not too much where your confidence caves in and your nerves take over. Leaving you feeling like you could take on the world after each lesson. She is patient, kind & unflappable. Not to mention - her deep understanding and respect for the foundations of english riding. She ensures that you understand the why & how of everything, before she builds on it.”
